What began as a group of friends kicking a football around after filming in Malaysia has grown into a celebrity football club that is now returning to where it all started.Hong Kong celebrity football team FC3 Club will make its Malaysian debut in The Bridge of Legends Hong Kong Celebrities Football Friendly Match on Oct 10, taking on Selangor FC Legends at MBPJ Stadium, Petaling Jaya, from 8pm to 10pm.
Organised by Orange Leisure Sdn. Bhd. and co-organised by Pew Pew Resource, the charity match will feature a squad comprising actors, singers and entertainment professionals from Hong Kong, with part of the proceeds benefiting Make-A-Wish Malaysia. Among those attending the promotional press conference in Kuala Lumpur were Carlos Chan, Locker Lam, Adrian Chau, Tony Wu and former Hong Kong international footballer Kumar So, who shared the unique story behind the formation of FC3.
At the press conference, Selangor princess Tengku Zatashah binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Princess of Selangor, graced the event as the Guest of Honour and witnessed the official launch of the initiative. Distinguished guests in attendance included Datuk Lee Chong Haw, Advisor of Selangor FC Legends; Mr. Aladdin Mostafa, Chief Operating Officer of Selangor FC Legends; Ms Irene Tan, Chief Executive Officer of Make-A-Wish Malaysia; Datin Karen Liew, Board Member of Make-A-Wish Malaysia; Jimmy Goh, Managing Director of Orange Leisure; Winnie Ng, General Manager of Orange Leisure; and Ms Pang, Chief Executive Officer of co-organiser Pew Pew Resource.
According to the players, the club was born in Malaysia during the filming of the Hong Kong drama ‘Fearless’ in 2024. While spending nearly three months on location, several cast and crew members who shared a passion for football began booking pitches during their free time after filming. What started as casual kickabouts quickly attracted more participants and eventually evolved into an organised football club.
“It all started here in Malaysia,” the players recalled, describing the upcoming match as a homecoming of sorts. Returning to the country where FC3 was founded makes the occasion especially meaningful, they said, adding that they are looking forward to stepping onto the pitch once again on Oct 10.
FC3 Club was established around the philosophy of “Standing Strong at Thirty”, bringing together entertainment industry professionals with an average age of around 30 who share a love for football. Beyond competition, the club aims to strengthen friendships, encourage teamwork and provide an outlet for its members to stay active while pursuing demanding careers in the entertainment industry.
The FC3 squad features well-known Hong Kong celebrities including Kaho Hung, Jer Lau (Jer@MIRROR), Tony Wu, Siu Hin Ng, Carlos Chan, Adrian Chau, Edward Ma, Elvin Wong, Yatho Wong, Jonathan Li, Terry Ng, Cheung Man, Sean Man, former Hong Kong representative footballer Kumar So and Tong Kin Man. The team is captained by Locker Lam and coached by former Hong Kong representative team captain Chan Wai Ho.
Beyond the star power of the silver screen, the pitch will host true football royalty. Facing off against FC3 Club is Selangor FC Legends—a titan of Malaysian sporting heritage established in 1921. Currently competing at the pinnacle of the national football pyramid in the Malaysia Super League, Selangor FC is widely celebrated as Malaysia’s most successful football club. Their matchless honor roll includes a record 33 Malaysia Cup titles, 7 Malaysia Super League (top division) championships, 2 Malaysia Premier League (second division) titles, 7 Malaysia FAM League (third division) championships, 5 FA Cup Malaysia titles, and 8 Charity Shield trophies.
Adding profound sporting prestige to the fixture, the veteran Selangor FC squad will feature legendary household names including Asmawi Bakiri, Malek Rahman, Shahril Arsat, and K. Sambagamaran—setting the stage for a compelling clash of culture and sporting history.
FC3 captain Locker Lam leads Hong Kong stars to Malaysia
Locker Lam said becoming team captain happened naturally because he took on the responsibility of coordinating training sessions, booking football pitches and bringing members together despite their busy filming schedules.
“Getting more than 20 people together isn’t easy because everyone has different work commitments. But seeing everyone enjoy the game and witnessing what we have built together makes all the effort worthwhile,” he said.
Kumar So revealed that Carlos Chan’s passion for football was one of the driving forces behind the club’s formation. “Even after long filming days, Carlos would rush over to join us if there were still 30 minutes left on the pitch before heading back to the hotel,” he said.
Hong Kong stars embrace their special bond with Malaysia
Following their return to Hong Kong, the group realised there was no football team specifically for entertainment industry professionals of their generation. They subsequently formalised the club, designed the team jersey and even drafted the club’s constitution, with Carlos Chan personally writing its mission and regulations. Speaking about returning to Malaysia, Chan said he was excited about the upcoming match and hoped fans would witness an entertaining contest.”I hope we can put on an exciting and competitive game for everyone,” he said, joking that besides football, he was also looking forward to enjoying Malaysia’s famous durians.
Locker Lam laughed that his biggest concern was not the match itself but Malaysia’s food.”I’m worried I’ll end up eating too much because the food here is so good. Hopefully it won’t affect my performance on the pitch,” he said.
Tony Wu described Malaysia as a special place for FC3. “This is where everything began. We started the club because we wanted people in front of and behind the camera to enjoy sports together outside work. Coming back here feels very meaningful, and we hope to experience Malaysia’s sporting culture while sharing our passion for football with local fans,” he said.
Adrian Chau, who has visited Malaysia several times recently, said he was approaching the match with modest expectations. “I’ve only been playing football for a little over two years, so my goal is simply to enjoy the game, make new friends and have fun,” he said.
Having previously played professional football and represented Hong Kong, Kumar So said the club had reignited his passion for the sport. “Our work often involves long hours and late nights. Staying active is important, and it’s rewarding to share my experience while watching everyone improve together. Football has become enjoyable all over again because of this group of friends,” he said.
The charity match will see FC3 Club face Selangor FC Legends, one of Malaysia’s most successful football clubs. Founded in 1921, Selangor FC has won a record 33 Malaysia Cup titles, seven Malaysia Super League championships, two Premier League titles, seven FAM League championships, five FA Cup titles and eight Charity Shield trophies.
Part of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Make-A-Wish Malaysia, combining sports, entertainment and philanthropy in a celebration of football and friendship.
